Ayalaan by Ravikumar doesn’t take long to reveal its topic of discussion. Through the introduction of ‘Tamizh‘ (Sivakarthikeyan), a hero, and his rescue of a newborn elephant that becomes caught in a ditch near to power lines, the film mixes two themes: it will go into great depth about the environment and children. The scene, in theory, is virtually exactly the same as every other typical Pongal release: a hero who arrives just in time to save several peasants from a dire situation, only for this simple resolve to give way to a big, colorful entrance song with numerous dancers. However, by concentrating on a single population, Ayalaan continues to be a Kaapaan who is Pasanga-only concerned.

Welcome back to ottwalla.com. Today, we’re blasting off with a review of Ayalaan, the sci-fi extravaganza starring Sivakarthikeyan. Now, I know what you’re thinking: aliens, spaceships, robots – this sounds like a recipe for epicness, right? Well, buckle up, because Ayalaan takes you on a ride that’s both thrilling and a tad bumpy.
High Hopes, High Tech
Let’s be clear: Ayalaan has really high goals. With great care and financial investment, director R. Ravikumar has produced an aesthetically spectacular science fiction film. The CGI and visual effects are excellent, on par with some Hollywood blockbusters. There will be enough of explosions to light up the Milky Way, elegant spaceships soaring over neon-drenched sky, and alien species that wouldn’t seem out of place in a Pixar movie.
Comedy or Thrill? You Pick
But here’s the thing. Ayalaan struggles to find its footing tonally. The first half is a light-hearted action-comedy, with Sivakarthikeyan charming his way through encounters with a goofy alien named Tattoo. It’s popcorn fun, but not exactly groundbreaking.
The Second Half Shifts Gears
Then, whoa! When the intermission begins, we find ourselves in the thick of an action-packed thriller. There are enough twists, betrayals, and suspenseful moments throughout the movie to keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s similar to midway through a rom-com turning into a John Wick film.
Bonding in the Zone
Now, the heart of Ayalaan is supposed to be the bond between Sivakarthikeyan and Tattoo. It’s a classic fish-out-of-water story, with the alien learning about Earth and the human learning about… well, aliens. But while their interactions are sweet and sometimes funny, the emotional connection doesn’t quite reach the level we were hoping for.
Missed Opportunities
And that’s the main problem facing Ayalaan. It might be an incredibly beautiful science fiction adventure as well as a touching tale of friendship. However, it makes an effort to be both and occasionally fails to be either. You get the concept. Picture yourself trying to eat a massive robot cake with a spoon.
Bonus
- The background score is pretty good, especially the “Sati Saath” song during the alien’s entry.
- If you’re a fan of Karthi’s comedy, you’ll find some laughs here.

Final Thoughts
Ayalaan is a good film, but not a great one. It’s fun, visually impressive, and has some heart, but the story and screenplay could have been stronger. If you’re looking for something new and innovative, this might not be it. But if you’re in the mood for a lighthearted sci-fi adventure with Karthi’s signature charm, Ayalaan is worth a watch.

FAQs
Is Ayalaan a good movie?
It depends on what you’re looking for. If you want a visually stunning sci-fi film with some laughs and heart, then it’s a decent watch. But if you’re craving a mind-blowing story or intense action, you might be disappointed.
What are the best things about Ayalaan?
The visuals are truly impressive, with top-notch VFX and CGI creating a believable alien world. Siva Karthikeyan’s comedic timing shines through, and there are some genuinely funny moments. The film also manages to build a decent bond between Karthi and the alien, even if it doesn’t reach peak emotional depth.
What are some of the film’s weaknesses?
The story is simple and somewhat predictable, and the screenplay feels dated at times. The film could have explored its sci-fi elements further and delve deeper into the alien’s world. While it sets up a thrilling premise, the first half prioritizes light-hearted comedy over action, and the second half doesn’t fully capitalize on its potential.
Where can I watch Ayalaan?
As of now, Ayalaan is only available in theaters in India. However, it may be released on streaming platforms later on.
